No Hassle Moving Corp Review

My experience with No Hassle Moving Corp. in Wayne NJ was horrible.

I'm writing this blog as a detailed recap of my personal experience with No Hassle Moving Corp in Wayne, NJ.

I would not recommend this company at ALL.

I found out about his company when their representative, Sue, contacted me regarding my move from New Jersey to Maryland which I had submited a request for online.  Sue was very professional on the phone and provided a detailed estimate for my move via email.  I received a quote of a little over $1,300 for my move.  I have a studio apartment with only a bedroom set and very little other furniture, so I figured this was reasonable for my move.

On the day before my move, Sue called me to confirm and informed me that the movers would arrive between 7:00am and 9:00 am.  On the day of my move, I got another call from Rashad, who was in charge of my move for the day, informing me that he would actually not arrive until 10:00am.

When Rashad and the other mover arrived at my house, he took a look at my items and informed me that I had more items than were quoted on the estimate and that my total cost would be more like $2,300 for the total move.  I was completely shocked by this and informed him that I would not be paying that amount and invited him to leave my apartment immediately if he expected me to pay that.  We talked through the details and he estimated that he would be able to tightly pack my items to get the cost down to around $2,000.  Again, I knew that I did not have that much stuff and my cost would likely be less than that, so I told him to proceed with the move.

It took Rashad and the other mover about 3 hours to wrap and load my belongings in the truck. During this time, they were playing music from a portable speaker in the truck which was VERY loud and overall, just totally unprofessional. They were also very slow. The last time I moved, it only took the guys 1.5 hours to wrap and load these same items out of my prior apartment.
This is the Budget truck that No Hassle Moving Corp tried to tell me was 1,100 cubic feet

Once my belongings were in the truck, Rashad told me that my belongings took up 770 cubic feet, which would have brought my total to $2,310, a full $1,000 MORE than what I was quoted. Rashad told me that the truck he was loading was a 16" foot truck that holds 1,100 cubic feet.  This was a LIE. He also told me that each marked section inside the truck holds 175 cubic feet.  This turned out to also be a LIE.

I went on the Budget Website and discovered that the 16" foot truck (pictured above) actually holds only 800 cubic feet. (View the site here) When I told this to Rashad, he told me that the corporate Budget Truck Rental website must be wrong. (Ha!)  He proceeded to explain that he has been moving for 14 years and knows that this size truck holds more than 800 cubic feet.  I tried to call Sue, who had always answered my calls prior to this, and guess what?  NO ANSWER.  I tried calling her several times and she never once answered or returned my call from the "office."

Rashad put me on the phone with his manager, Joe, who was no help at all.  Joe said that since he was not there to see the furniture, there was nothing he could do. He offered to take off 50 cubic feet of my total, which I was not satisfied with, so I took photos of the truck as proof of the space. Joe said he would take a look at the photos and get back to me.  At this point, we got on the road to Maryland.

I called my mom and explained the whole thing to her while we were driving. I also emailed the photos to my mom who would be better able to handle the back and forth with Joe while I was focused on driving.

My mother was able to get Budget Rental Trucks on the phone and Budget also confirmed that the truck holds 800 cubic feet, so there was no way that Rashad's estimate of 770 cubic feet could have been correct.  While I was on the highway following behind the truck, Rashad actually pulled over to the side of the interstate highway to take another photo of my stuff in the truck to send to Joe. I found it to be totally unprofessional and quite dangerous to pull over on the side of a busy highway instead of waiting to find a rest stop.
Here is Rashad taking a photo on the side of the busy interstate highway.

The yellow tape indicates where my belongings stop in the truck. The truck is 800 cubic feet in total. The line markers on the interior of the truck are each 100 cubic feet.  There are 8 sections total. My belongings only take up 5 of the 8 sections, for a total of 500 cubic feet.  (Note: The brown table is not mine. I was going to throw it away, and the mover said he wanted  to keep it.)

Here is the empty truck after my stuff was removed. As you can see, there are 8 sections total.  The entire truck measure 800 cubic feet.

When we arrived at Maryland, I ended up speaking with Joe again and he told me that he would charge me for 600 cubic feet.  I told him I was not paying that because according to the measurements inside the truck, I was only taking up 500 cubic feet.

The guys unloaded my belongings and I ended up talking them down to 550 cubic feet.  I only accepted this offer because I was grateful that they were able to do a same-day move. Most of the other companies I called would have taken 2 days to deliver my stuff.  Of course, I did not tip them one penny.

Overall, the entire experience was awful and No Hassle Moving Corp. as a company is a scam. I would not recommend this company at ALL.  I have reported them to the Better Business Bureau and also Yelp.  My goal in reporting this is so that no one else has to go through what I went through.
